Introduction
Guangdong Food Profession Union (GFPU) is a non-profit federally chartered trade association for food related industries in Guangdong Province . Our membership includes retailers, wholesalers, distributors, manufacturers, consultants and other associations that are involved in a variety of industry sub-sectors. With over 11,000 members, GFPU is the leading spokesperson on food industry issues in Guangdong Province .
The history of the association can be traced back to Guangdong Food Industry Association, which was authorized by the government in 1981. The association was then in charge of programming, services, consultancy, self-discipline and management of food industry in Guangdong Province .
On Nov. 21, 1984, Guangdong Provincial Government announced the establishment of Food Industry Office of Guangdong in Document No.187. The responsibilities of the Office include food industry management, planning, coordination, policy making, enacting food standards, food sanitation inspection, research and technical development.
In 1997, Guangdong Food Industry Association and The Food Industry Office of Guangdong were combined as Guangdong Food Profession Union, which is the biggest industry association in China , and also boasts of both “Guangdong Excellent NGO” and “National Excellent NGO”.
